Mrs. Hermit left town this morning. Actually, I dropped her off at the airport this morning to catch an 11 am flight. Her brother is an airline pilot so she was trying to catch a free flight. She arrived hoping to fly first class and now she’s just hoping to get a seat of any kind.
Back at the ranch, I wanted to cook something I could munch on for a few days. That marinated/bbq chicken is never far from my mind. It being perfect weather for grilling outside, that was an easy call. My wife usually likes having a few different cuts of chicken but since she’s going to be out of town for a few days (if she can get a flight, anyway) I indulged my love of the drumstick. I stuffed 21 of them into a freezer bag with the marinade yesterday afternoon.
I’m going to fire it up earlier today than usual, maybe start eating around 5:30 during the late game. One thing I’m hoping to do is crisp and darken up the skin a little more than it has the last couple of times.
Football-wise, I’m really enjoying the seeming implosion of the Dallas Cowboys (sorry Dan). Being a NY Giant fan, I have a true hatred for the Cowboys. As well as the Eagles and the Redskins. I’ll be the first to admit though that I think the Giants are way overrated. The Browns game was a classic trap game and they fell right into it. I wonder if Jerry Jones will fire Wade Phillips before the season’s over. He definitely seems desperate enough.
I’m in a dogfight in my fantasy league but all is good. The chicken came out perfectly. And I had a suspiscion that my wife wasn’t going to be able to get on a flight so I only had a couple of beers. What do you know? She just called and it looks like I’m going to be headed back to the airport to pick her up. Who knew it would be so tough to fly standby to Little Rock, Arkansas?
Honestly, I’m way too uptight to travel that way. There’s been at least one family holiday that my wife’s brother wasn’t able to make it because he was trying to fly standby. Personally, I find the whole idea to be a cockamamie way to travel. But to each his own I guess.
Better get going to the airport to bring her back home. I wonder if she’s going back to the airport to start the whole quest again? It’ll be interesting to hear what she thinks…

Ma Hermit has a much better ring to it, if you ask me.
Your mileage may vary.

The Cowboys are in deep doo-doo. Jones won’t fire Phillips mid-season, but they’ll end up making the playoffs as a wild card (10-6), losing in the first round (to Green Bay at Lambeau) and then Phillips gets canned in the offseason.
Unfortunately for you, that means Jason Garrett steps in as coach and the ‘Boys win the Super Bowl next year!
You heard it here first…

Not if Al Davis slips a rohypnol into Jason Garret’s smoothie. Next thing you know Jason wakes up as the head coach of the Raiders wondering how it all happened. At least you’d get to watch him coach in your neck of the woods though.
